YBL Airport Lighting, Visual Aids and Taxiway Rehabilitation

• Mill and overlay of the pavement along Taxiway Bravo;
• Crack sealing to reduce risk of FOD (foreign objects);
• Mill and Pave existing asphalt to 100 mm and addition of new concrete aircraft stands
  for Apron 1;
• Replace Runway 12 SSLAR (solar lights);
• Replace Runway 30 ODALS with SALS (directional lights);
• Replace PAPI (runway approach path indicator lights);
• Replace Airfield Signage;
• Replace Windsocks and Beacon;
• Replace Apron Floodlights;
• Install Backup Wireless Communication for ALCS (lighting);
• Install New Fire Suppression and Alarm in the FEC (field electrical centre).

All of the work is confined to the Campbell River Airport (YBL) which is located on Jubilee Parkway in the southern section of the City.

RFP 19-69 for design and engineering services has been awarded to Tetra Tech Canada Inc. & Gibbings Consulting Ltd.

A public tender 22-01 was held and closed April 27th with zero submissions received. A revised Tender 22-52 was held by invitation only and closed May 19th with 2 submissions received. City Council awarded Tristar Electric Inc. for this contract.

Construction is anticipated to commence in July 2022.

This project has been successful in receiving Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) funds in the amount of $7.2 million. There remainder of the costs will be borne by the City and funded through airport improvement fees (AIF).

All of the work is limited to the Campbell River Airport; therefore, there will be no disruption to traffic as part of this project. Impacts to air traffic will be determined during the design phase and all available mitigation measures will be considere
