Business Owners Invited to Help Shape Campbell River’s Economic Future During Small Business Week

Business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs across Campbell River are invited to share their feedback and insights by participating in the City of Campbell River’s upcoming business walk and meetings during Small Business Week, October 19 to 25, 2025.

This local, business-first approach recognizes that businesses are best positioned to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for business success. The information collected will support long-term planning for the community, while also yielding short-term tangible results.

    Here’s how you can participate:

    • Attend the City’ drop-in town hall meetings at Tidemark Theatre (1220 Shoppers Row) on Sunday, October 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or at the City of Campbell River Airport (YBL) terminal (2000 Jubilee Parkway) on Tuesday, October 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.

o Share your thoughts about the local business environment.

o Find out the preliminary results of the City’s business pulse survey. The survey was sent directly to local businesses via email. If you received a survey but haven’t completed it yet, there’s still time! The survey closes on Friday, October 10.

o Experience the new online business development platform.

o The meeting at Tidemark Theatre on October 19 coincides with the one-year anniversary of The Rail Yard Market. Enjoy a BBQ compliments of Destination Campbell River and the Visitor Information Centre and celebrate the market’s anniversary with a cake pop while you’re there!

    • Join the City’s business walk on Friday, October 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. Staff and members of Council will be dropping by local businesses to get a pulse on how things are going, what support businesses need and what future plans businesses have. You can also email invest@campbellriver.ca to make an appointment for outside that time.

“By participating in the City’s upcoming business walk and meetings, local businesses will help transform their experiences and insights into clear and current feedback, unique to Campbell River. This will then help guide our actions through 2026 and beyond,” says Rose Klukas, Director of Economic Development and Indigenous Relations. “The voices of the business community matter in shaping our economic future. Your input will directly support the resilience and prosperity of our community now and for years to come.”

These Small Business Week activities are part of a larger business engagement program that looks to create a thriving business environment that supports existing enterprises while attracting new investment. Through direct engagement, the City aims to better understand the challenges businesses are facing and identify opportunities for growth and innovation.

Looking for other ways to share your insights? Here are other ways to get involved:

    • Make an appointment with City staff via invest@campbellriver.ca or 250-286-5700 ext. 701.
    • Drop by City Hall (301 St. Ann’s Road) on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., until December 17, 2025, to speak with economic development staff. Wednesday afternoon drop-in meetings will resume on January 7, 2026.
    • Complete the City’s business pulse survey before the Friday, October 10, deadline, if you were emailed a copy.

“Business input is essential to ensuring that the decisions we make reflect the realities businesses face every day,” says Mayor Kermit Dahl. “This is about more than listening—it’s about working together to develop and implement meaningful solutions that reflect the unique needs of Campbell River. By bringing together business, government, and nonprofit perspectives, we can develop a practical plan that helps businesses of all shapes and sizes grow and succeed.”
