Campbell River now accepts food and yard waste year round as part of the weekly curbside collection program. The curbside organics collection program allows residents to divert food and yard waste from the landfill.

Why are we diverting organic waste?

By composting organic materials such as food and yard waste, we can extend the lifespan of the regional landfill while creating high-quality, nutrient-rich fertilizer.

See our FAQ below on how to participate in organics curbside collection.

Organics Collection Made Easy: The Campbell River Recycles app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Sign up for Curbside Collection reminders today.

The more you know: Community Incentives

Composting – The curbside collection program is great for even the most avid at-home composters. Our Organics initiative collects a broad range of compostable items that cannot be fully composted at home.

Illegal Dumping Dangers – Incorrectly disposed of food and yard waste has a serious impact on our environment and biodiversity conservation. Piles of yard waste attract rats and pests that spread disease, and can be a significant fuel risk for fires if dry. Dumped yard waste can also smother seedlings, carry plant disease, introduce invasive species, and can cause nitrogen deficiencies in the soil that kill native plants.
