Recreational Fire Ban Lifted for Campbell River

As of noon on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the recreational fire ban has been lifted for Campbell River.

Residents may have recreational fires, as long as those fires meet bylaw regulations as follows:

    • Recreational fires are for cooking or providing heat and must be:

o in a permanent outdoor fireplace, barbeque or fire pit not larger than 60 centimetres (24 inches) in diameter, and designed and constructed to confine the fire, or

o within a fully enclosed burner or similar device, and

o appropriately supervised with means of extinguishing the fire at hand.

    • Beach fires should be below the high-tide line.

This follows BC Wildfire Service’s announcement that campfire bans have been lifted in some areas of the Coastal Fire Centre, including Campbell River, and that the fire danger rating has declined in these areas due to increased moisture and cooler temperatures. Although the fire danger rating is reduced, Campbell River residents are asked to remain vigilant when burning, practice fire safety and follow regulations.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until further notice.
