Roads Reopen Following Temporary Closure at Centennial Outdoor Pool

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 4, 2025, the City of Campbell River Fire Department and other City staff, RCMP and BC Ambulance Services personnel responded to a spill at Centennial Outdoor Pool involving a common chemical used in pool maintenance. To facilitate an efficient and safe response, surrounding roads were temporarily closed, including parts of Birch Street, Alder Street, 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue.

The initial clean-up response is complete, and all roads surrounding Centennial Outdoor Pool have reopened to the public. A small area close to the pool remains closed to the public, marked with yellow tape. The City advises the public to stay out of the taped-off area and to follow directions from security personnel and signage on-site.

The City thanks all staff and supporting agencies for the prompt and professional response. No injuries have been reported.

The pool will remain closed on the morning of June 5, 2025, and the 7 to 8 a.m. Swim Club session is cancelled. The City will provide an update via its website and social media when the pool is scheduled to reopen.
