CITY WARMING CENTRE TO OPEN ON FEBRUARY 14

In response to the low overnight temperatures in the forecast, the City of Campbell River (the City) will open a warming centre at the Campbell River Community Centre (401-11th Avenue) from 10 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, until 7 a.m. the following morning.

The Warming Centre will be staffed by individuals who have experience working with people experiencing homelessness, so that necessary support is available. The Warming Centre is open to everyone for short-term stays and is a place for vulnerable populations to come in, warm up, and be provided with information on resources available to them. Visitors may bring pets on leashes and belongings, including bikes and carts. Hot drinks, snacks and seating will be available.

As this is a warming centre only, with funding provided by the Province through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, beds are not provided. This service supplements overnight shelter beds and daytime services already available within the community, such as Kwesa Place, Evergreen Shelter and Housing, and the 40 temporary housing units with support services provided by the City of Campbell River (the City) and BC Housing at 1299 Homewood Road.

The City will notify the public of upcoming Warming Centre activations and operating hours on the City’s website and social media channels.

Thank you to all staff, volunteers and partners for supporting this activation.
