The Community Centre, 401 11th Avenue, will be available as a Warming Centre from 11 p.m. on the evening of January 17 to 7 a.m. on the morning of January 18, 2024.
The Warming Centre is open to all for short-term stays. Visitors may bring pets on leashes and belongings, including bikes and carts. Hot drinks, snacks and seating are available, however, beds are not provided. The Warming Centre is staffed by individuals with experience working with people experiencing homelessness to ensure necessary support is available.
Due to the combination of low temperatures and potential snowfall, the City is activating a warming centre despite the forecast showing temperatures will not reach the -4 degrees Celsius that would trigger the City’s Extreme Weather Plan.
Warmer temperatures are forecast from Thursday, January 18, 2024, and the Warming Centre is not currently scheduled to open beyond 7 a.m. on January 18. The City will notify the public on the City’s website and social media channels regarding any changes to the Warming Centre’s operating hours.
Funding for the Warming Centre is provided by the Province through Emergency Management Climate Readiness and the City of Campbell River.
Thank you to all staff, volunteers and partners for their role during this activation.
