CITY OF CAMPBELL RIVER TEMPORARILY EXTENDING THE WARMING CENTRE HOURS

The Community Centre, 401 11th Avenue, will be available as a Warming Centre from 9 p.m. on the evenings of January 12, 13 and 14 and run to 7 a.m. the following mornings. This is a temporary extension to the operating hours.

Staff are monitoring the situation to ensure that a warm space is available for people experiencing homelessness throughout this extreme cold weather, including overnight wellness checks throughout the community conducted by the City Fire Department. Services from local providers are available throughout the day, and the extended hours of the City’s Warming Centre will ensure that a warm space is available overnight.

The Warming Centre is open to all for short-term stays. Visitors may bring pets on leashes and belongings, including bikes and carts. Hot drinks, snacks and seating are available, however, beds are not provided. The Warming Centre is staffed by individuals with experience working with people experiencing homelessness to ensure necessary support is available.

The City will re-assess the need for a Warming Centre on January 15 and notify the public on the City’s website and social media channels ahead of opening. Groups with private bookings will be contacted if the Warming Centre will affect programming.

Thank you to the efforts of all staff, volunteers and partners for their role during this activation.
