    Ready, set, decorate! Registration opens for gingerbread house competition

     

    The City of Campbell River Recreation and Culture Department is partnering with the Campbell River Downtown Business Improvement Association and Tidemark Theatre to host its annual Gingerbread House Competition. Entries will be accepted in three prize categories: adult, child and family. There is no cost to enter, but registration is required.

    Registration is open from now until Tuesday, Nov. 23. Register online at campbellriver.ca/special-events or pick up a registration form at the Campbell River Community Centre or the Sportsplex. The gingerbread structures can take a variety of shapes and sizes, and don’t necessarily need to be houses.

     “It’s always such a pleasure to showcase the work of all of the talented gingerbread artists who enter the competition. We’re looking forward to seeing what incredible, edible artwork competitors have in store for us this year,” says recreation programmer Karen Chappell.

    Entries can be dropped off at following locations:

    • Tidemark Theatre
      • Thursday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m.
      • Friday, Nov. 26, from noon to 2 p.m.
    • Community Centre
      • Thursday, Nov. 25, from 5 to 6 p.m.

    Entries will be displayed in the lobby of the Tidemark Theatre for the public to vote on during the following days:

    • Tuesday to Thursday, Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, from noon until 4 p.m.
    • Friday, Dec. 3, from noon until 7 p.m.

    The final voting opportunity will be on Dec. 3, during the Big Truck Parade. Winners will be contacted on Monday,

    Dec. 6. There are prize baskets for each category.

    There will also be a photo booth in the lobby of the Tidemark Theatre from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 3. Come and take photos with our giant gingerbread person. 

    COVID-19 protocols will be in place.  Masks must be worn at all times in the Tidemark Theatre. 

    Competitors will be able to bring their masterpieces home to enjoy after the competition. Pick-up will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Tidemark Theatre.
