Food Truck Business Licences

Food trucks, like all businesses in the City of Campbell River, require a valid business licence. Business licences for food trucks cost $35 per operating day. They remain valid until February 27 of the following year.

If you operate more than one business, you must have a separate business licence for each business.

Application Process

To begin the application process, you must submit a completed application to business.licence@campbellriver.ca.

Food Truck Business Licence Application [PDF/1MB]

Once you've submitted your application, we will begin reviewing it. Food truck business licence applications are reviewed by:

  • City staff, for alignment with the Zoning Bylaw [PDF/7.8MB] and the Business Licence Bylaw
  • Building and Fire Inspectors
  • The Business Licence Inspector
  • Vancouver Island Health Authority

If your application meets all these conditions, you will receive a business licence via email. Processing times vary and change depending on the complexity of the application and your ability to meet licensing requirements.

Site Reservation and Licence Fees

Once you have a business licence, you'll need to reserve a site for the days you plan to operate. You can book a site through the City by emailing recandculture@campbellriver.ca or calling (250) 286-1161. We book sites on a first come, first served basis.

When booking, staff will collect the $35 per operating day fee associated with your licence. This is a non-refundable fee.

Once you've booked a site, we will give you a booking contract. This contract includes the valid licensing dates. Your business licence is only valid when used on the date and for the site that has been reserved and paid for. You must display both your business licence and booking contract when operating your food truck.  If your food truck will be located on private property, you do not need a reservation but must provide written permission.

Food Truck Sites

We accept applications to operate food trucks at the following downtown and water front locations:

  • Spirit Square
  • Rotary Beach Park
  • Ken Forde Park
  • Rockland Road parking lot
  • Maritime Heritage Centre parking lot
  • Big Rock Boat Ramp overflow parking lot

You may also operate your food truck at certain other locations for events. These locations must be booked through the City. Food truck vendors with a City-issued food truck licence may continue operating at certain private locations, where permitted.
