Completed Parks Projects

The City of Campbell River's Parks Strategic Plan 2012 [PDF/2MB] identified many park projects to be completed in the 10 to 20 years following the plan. The plan listed priorities for investment in parks, sports fields and trail systems, and these priorities have guided our parks projects. Below is a summary of some of the projects we have been able to complete.

Elk Falls Cemetery Improvements and Expansion

The Elk Falls Cemetery was nearing capacity. To ensure the cemetery could continue to serve the community, work was completed to expand the cemetery. While completing the expansion, enhancements were made to the existing burial area. Review the expansion plan to see the work completed:

Big Rock Boat Launch Design

A detailed design for improvements to the boat ramp facility included:

  • upgrades to the break water
  • replacement and expansion of the ramp
  • fish cleaning facilities
  • washrooms
  • enhanced parking

Using the design, the City completed work on the reconstruction of the breakwaters, a concrete ramp and the installation of a floating dock.

Greenways Loop Design - Maryland to Jubilee

Construction ready drawings were prepared to extend the Seawalk from Maryland to Jubilee Parkway. This completed a section of the Greenways loop, a 25 km trail that circumnavigates the City.

Parks Permanent Washrooms

Permanent washrooms were built at Robron Park.

Penfield West Park Drainage

Drainage problems were fixed, to address spring water running over the walkways in Penfield West Park. Now this spring water is redirected to the stormwater swale on the northeast side of the park.

Walter Morgan Studio Restoration

The City worked with the Campbell River Rotary Club to complete upgrades to the foundation of the Walter Morgan Studio on the Sybil Andrews Heritage Site.
