Water Alerts and Restrictions
During the late spring and summer the City of Campbell River has two periods in a day when water demand can surpass the production limit of our water system.
Watering restrictions allow for more consistent water use. They also decrease the probability of surpassing the production limit. The restrictions are in place under the Water Restrictions Bylaw [PDF/145KB].
Lawn Watering Restrictions
Lawn watering regulations are in effect May 1 to September 30. During this time, Stage One restrictions are in place by default. If additional restrictions are necessary, the City will move to Stage Two or Stage Three restrictions.
Any sprinkler system being used to irrigate residential or commercial lawns or flower and vegtable gardens is subject to these restrictions.
Watering gardens, trees, shrubs, and community gardens by hand or with a spring-loaded type nozzle with automatic shut-off connected to hose is allowed at any time during the day in all watering restriction stages.

Non-residential watering is allowed from 1 to 8 a.m. on specific days, depending on your address:

Stage Three Restrictions
During Stage Three, residential and non-residential watering is prohibited.
There are exemptions under Stage Three for watering that would affect businesses. Playing fields, nurseries, and commercial greenhouses are granted exemptions to the sprinkling restrictions in Stage Three.
Temporary Water Permits
We issue temporary watering permits for newly seeded and sodded lawns. You may request a permit only during Stage One watering restrictions. No exemptions are issued during Stage Two or Three, however, permits issues under Stage One will remain valid.
For recently seeded properties, your permit can be used for a period of 45 days, on any day between the hours of 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. For recently sodded properties, your permit can be used for a period of 21 days, on any day between the hours of 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
