Application Process
The City accepts resumes for advertised positions through SmartRecruiters. Please access this from each individual job application.
Please be aware when applying that:
- You are able to attach one document during the initial stage of the application process. This should be your resume or a combined document that has your resume and cover letter.
- Cover letters should be addressed to Human Resources.
- You will be able to add additional documents during the screening questions section of the application process.
- Job applications and resumes are not accepted via email.
- The City only accepts resumes for open competitions, and applications are not kept on file for future consideration. Please submit separate resumes for each position you are interested in.
We encourage all interested applicants to apply for positions if they are qualified. Every applicant will be given equal consideration in the hiring process.
If you have general questions about working for the City of Campbell River, please contact us at careers@campbellriver.ca
Note: Only applicants who are legally entitled to work in Canada can be considered for the advertised positions.

Hiring Process
All applicants are assessed on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum qualifications of the posting does not automatically mean that you will be short-listed for the position posted.
When a vacancy falls within the collective bargaining unit, first consideration is given to permanent, qualified employees.
Once a competition closes, the City begins the following hiring process:
- Resumes are shortlisted based on the necessary qualifications for the position advertised.
- Short-listed candidates are contacted by telephone and/or email, typically within one to three weeks after the competition closing date, for any job related testing.
- Individuals who meet or exceed the minimum pass score may then be invited to return for a panel interview. We frequently ask behavioural based questions when conducting our interviews.
- Candidates for positions that deal with or come in contact with vulnerable individuals will be asked to provide a current satisfactory criminal record and vulnerability sector check before an offer of employment is made. All civilian positions located at the RCMP detachment are designated as requiring an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security screening clearance prior to commencing employment.
Candidates can check the status of their application by logging into SmartRecruiters and navigating to the My Applications tab.
