Food trucks operating in the City of Campbell River must hold a valid business licence, as required for all businesses. See exceptions below.
To book a designated City location, please complete the Food Truck Site Booking Form and submit it by email to indoorbooking@campbellriver.ca.
Food Truck Site Booking Form [PDF/1MB]
If you already hold a Primary Food Truck Licence and an Inter-Community Food Truck Licence issued by another participating municipality, you are not required to obtain a City of Campbell River business licence.
Additionally, if you intend to operate your food truck exclusively at one of the seven designated City sites, you are not required to apply for a City of Campbell River business licence. In this case, your approved site booking agreement serves as your business licence.
However, when applying to book a City site, you must provide all supporting documents required for the Food Truck Licence application as proof that all regulatory requirements have been met.
Documents required include:
- Proof of fire inspection
- Proof of vehicle's gas and electrical compliance
- VIHA Food Permit
- Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance
- Proof of liability insurance with City of Campbell River named and minimum coverage of $3,000,000
- Current Primary/ICBL if applicable
Restaurants that wish to operate a food truck in association with their existing business are required to obtain a Food Truck Licence. This licence is considered secondary to the primary restaurant business licence and is therefore issued at no additional cost.
Food truck vendors may also apply for a Seasonal licence for $75 if operating for six months or less. The licensee must reapply yearly and may only apply for one Seasonal licence in any calendar year.
Site Reservation Fees
Once you have an approved food truck business licence, you can book a City site for several days, up to a maximum of 2 weeks in one location. Bookings are made by emailing your form to indoorbooking@campbellriver.ca If you possess a current City of Campbell River primary business licence the daily $35 fee is waived.
When booking, staff will collect the $35 per operating day fee associated with your licence. This is a non-refundable fee.
Once you've booked a site, we will give you a booking contract. This contract includes the valid licensing dates. Your business licence is only valid when used on the date and for the site that has been reserved and paid for. You must display both your business licence and booking contract when operating your food truck. If your food truck will be located on private property, you will need to obtain written permission from the property owner to be kept on hand in case of inspection. Please ensure your area is kept clean and free of garbage at all times.
