Powering the Rotary Community Fieldhouse with Solar Energy

In 2021, a 36-panel, 12.4 kW solar energy system connected to the electrical grid was installed at the Rotary Community Fieldhouse. Small Planet Energy Inc., a company founded in Campbell River in 2009, donated all design and installation labour for the project.

The solar panels help offset electricity used by the Fieldhouse and surrounding turf lighting. In their first four years, the panels generated approximately 60 megawatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to the annual electricity use of about 5.5 homes.

The City thanks Small Planet Energy Inc. for its contribution to the project and support for renewable energy in Campbell River.
