The City of Campbell River will host an emergency training exercise at the Campbell River Airport (YBL) on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The exercise will involve City staff, including airport personnel and employees from other City departments, as well as emergency responders and representatives from partner agencies. It will provide an opportunity for participating organizations to practice a coordinated response to a simulated emergency.

Residents may notice emergency vehicles, personnel and simulated emergency response activities in and around the airport throughout the day. This is a planned exercise and there is no risk to the public.

Access to exercise areas will be restricted to authorized personnel. The public and media are asked to avoid exercise locations and follow any signage and directions on site. No impacts to regular airport operations are anticipated.

The City will use Alertable, its emergency notification system, to advise the public before the exercise begins through an Advisory Alert. Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive Alertable notifications about emergencies and other important public safety information through Alertable.

The exercise is required as part of the airport’s certification through Transport Canada and is funded through the Union of BC Municipalities.
