Watermain repaired; slope assessed as stable.

At approximately 6:06 a.m. on October 2, 2026, the City of Campbell River Fire Department responded to a report of a landslide behind the condominium building at 350 South Island Highway.

Fire department personnel attended the site and assessed the situation. No evacuation of the building was required, and no injuries were reported.

Cleanup of the affected area is ongoing; however, significant progress has been made in the parking area, with most debris now removed. A geotechnical engineer has assessed the site and determined that the slope is stable, with no immediate risk to public safety or surrounding property.

As part of the preliminary site investigation, the City confirmed that a watermain break occurred in the area during the early morning of October 2 and contributed to the movement of soil and debris. City crews have completed repairs to the watermain and will continue to monitor the site and surrounding area.

The City appreciates the cooperation and patience of nearby residents during the response and cleanup efforts.
