Construction on the Nunn's Creek Park Enhancements Project is set to begin on Monday, July 20, 2026, marking a major step toward creating Campbell River's primary slo-pitch facility. To help deliver the project to the community as quickly as possible, the contractor — Campbell River-based Upland Contracting Ltd. — has committed to working seven days a week, with the goal of having the new fields ready for play next spring.
The project will transform Nunn's Creek Park into a dedicated slo-pitch hub featuring four tournament-capable ball fields, including two multi-use fields. Additional improvements include improved accessibility, expanded parking, enhanced event space, designated areas for food trucks and kiosks, and utility services to support future washroom and storage facilities.
The redevelopment will see the existing playing surface stripped of grass and topsoil so that drainage improvements and utility upgrades can be completed. The fields will then be raised and reconstructed, with suitable topsoil reused to create high-quality playing surfaces that better support sport and community use. The existing Logger Sports area will be maintained and integrated into the park design, while preserving flexibility for other long-standing community events.
To support public safety throughout the construction period, Nunn's Creek Park will be closed to the public. Crews will work to minimize disruption to neighbouring properties as much as possible, and residents are asked to follow all posted signage.
This project is largely funded through external grants, including approximately $6.4 million from the Growing Communities Fund and $1.635 million from the Build Communities Strong Fund.
