Expect single lane alternating traffic starting in May.
Work on the City of Campbell River’s Erickson Road Renewal Project is set to begin as soon as Thursday, May 7, 2026, bringing critical infrastructure upgrades to a key route in Campbell River.
The project will replace underground water and storm sewer pipes that are at the end of their serviceable lives. Construction will start near the Larwood Creek crossing and move west along Erickson Road to just west of Nature Park Drive. The construction contract (valued at $5.7 million) was awarded to Windley Contracting Ltd. in March 2026.
Residents and commuters should expect single-lane alternating traffic for the next seven months. Garbage and recycling pickup will continue as usual, and no transit changes are expected at this time. Parking in the construction zone will be limited.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to improve the reliability of water and sewer services in Campbell River,” said Grant Parker, Director of Operations. “We know residents will have questions about how this work may affect their properties or commutes. We are committed to sharing updates as construction progresses.”
Invitations to drop-in office hours are being delivered to residents along the route. These sessions are a chance for residents to ask questions and learn more about how the project may affect them. If you live or own property in the construction area and have questions, please contact ericksonrenewal@campbellriver.ca or phone 250-286-5756.
About the Project
- The first phase of the Erickson Road Renewal Project focuses on replacing underground utilities and restoring the road surface. The plan is to restore the roadway to its current condition and infill sidewalks where they currently don’t exist.
- The City is pursuing additional grant funding that could support future phases of improvements in the corridor, such as sidewalks, a multi-use path, curbs, and improved lighting.
- The project is supported by the Government of Canada’s Canada Community-Building Fund.
