About

Spirit Square sits on the territory of the Laich-Kwil-Tach people of the Wei Wai Kum and We Wai Kai First Nations. It is located downtown at the corner of Shoppers Row and 16th Avenue, next to the Tyee Plaza and under the watchful eye of “Logger Mike” high atop his spar pole.

Spirit Square opened in December 2009, with funding from the Province of British Columbia, the City, and the Island Coastal Economic Trust—just in time to celebrate the Cross-Canada Olympic torch relay.

With the Tidemark Theatre and the Vancouver Island Regional Library branch across the street and the Campbell River Art Gallery next door, Spirit Square is a cultural centre for the community of nearly 40,000 people.

Spirit Square is a City facility managed by Lucas Schuller and the Highway 19 Concert Society.
