Animal Control and Dog Licences

City of Campbell River Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Control Officers administer and enforce the regulations of the Animal Control Bylaw [PDF/1.2MB].

Dog Licences

All dogs over six months old in Campbell River must have a valid dog licence.

Dog licences must be renewed annually. Dog tags last the lifetime of your dog.

To register a new dog licence, please email Dog Licensing.

Dog licence fees within City boundaries are:

  • $40 for intact dogs
  • $20 for spayed or neutered dogs
  • $10 for a lost tag replacement

Dog licence fees for within the Strathcona Regional District Area D boundaries are:

  • $45 for intact dogs
  • $15 for spayed or neutered dogs
  • $10 for a lost tag replacement

Renewing a Dog Licence

You can renew your dog licence by paying using a credit card through the online services portal. To do so, you will need the access code located in your reminder letter. Once you have paid the renewal, we will email you your dog tag.

Online Services — Dog Licence Renewal

If you require assistance with an access code, please contact the City through Dog Licensing.

You may also purchase a dog licence renewal with cash, cheque or debit card. To do so, please come to City Hall (301 St. Ann's Road), Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Statutory Holidays.

If you have moved or no longer have your dog, please advise the City through Dog Licensing.

Animal Control Services

Inquires, concerns and complaints regarding animals should be directed to Animal Control.

Common reported issues include:

  • barking and noisy dogs
  • dogs running at large
  • unleashed dogs
  • impounded dogs
  • vicious or dangerous dogs
  • deceased animals on City roads

Animal Control Officers are available seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and can be contacted by phone.

City Pound

The City Pound is located at 490 Merecroft Road, Campbell River. It is open to the public seven days a week from 5 to 6 p.m. Access to the Pound outside these times may be arranged by contacting Animal Control Services.

Off-Leash Dog Areas

Within the following areas, you may exercise your dog off-leash. 

Please refer to the Animal Control Bylaw [PDF/1.2MB] for the boundary of these areas.

  • Penfield Park located at 2090 College Drive
  • Evergreen Dog Park located on the corner of Peterson Road and Evergreen Road.
  • Robron Park located adjacent to the Robron Rotary Field House, accessible via Birch Street South.

In addition to these dog parks, other off-leash areas in Campbell River as designated under a bylaw or by agreement with the landholders, include:
