Garbage Program

The City of Campbell River provides garbage collection services to single-family and duplex homes through our contractor, Emterra Environmental. This service is funded by an annual collection service fee.

If you have any questions about your garbage service, the collection schedule, or to report a missed pickup, please call Emterra at 250-286-0211.

Collection Schedules

You can find collection schedules by using the ReCollect tool on the Collection Schedules page, or by downloading the Campbell River Recycles app.

Collection Schedules

Curbside Guidelines

For curbside collection, your garbage should be placed out by the curb as close to 7:30 a.m. as possible, but no earlier than midnight, on your scheduled collection day. Following collection, please bring garbage containers back to your property by 8 p.m. These rules help reduce the risk of attracting bears and other wildlife.

Collection Limits

Our curbside garbage collection is limited to one 80 litre can, per household, per week. Your garbage can must weigh less than 20 kg, or 44 lbs.

This limit helps encourage residents to reduce the amount of garbage they produce. It also allows the City to continue to provide a financially sustainable collection program. You can reduce your garbage production by:

  • Reducing consumption
  • Reusing where possible
  • Composting organic materials, or participating in the organics curbside collection program
  • Ensuring recyclable materials go into your blue bin

If you have more than 80 litres of garbage, you can purchase a garbage tag for an additional container. Garbage tags are $4 and can be purchased at City Hall, the Sportsplex or the Community Centre. Each garbage tag is good for one extra container up to 80 litres and 20 kg.

Missed Pickups

If your pickup was missed, you can contact Emterra at 250-286-0211 to arrange a new pickup. In the meantime, bring your waste bins back to your property by 8 p.m., as usual, to reduce the risk of attracting bears and other wildlife. Yard waste bags or containers with no food waste can remain at the curbside.

Glass

Glass will not be collect at the curbside. As it can easily break during collection, it poses a safety hazard and may contaminate other recyclables.

Regional Waste Management Centre

The Campbell River Waste Management Centre, or the Landfill, is run by the Comox Valley Regional District.

The Landfill is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week. It is not open on statutory holidays.
