Following recent heavy rain and wind, water entered Fire Hall #1 through an exposed section of the roof that is currently being replaced. A hazardous materials survey was completed to identify potential hazards before the removal of water-damaged materials could take place. The survey identified asbestos-containing materials.

As a precaution, staff are temporarily relocating from Fire Hall #1. The Fire Hall #1 on-duty fire crew will be based at the City of Campbell River’s Enterprise Resource Centre, next to City Hall, until further notice, while dispatch staff will operate from the North Island 9-1-1 backup centre.

Emergency services continue as usual, with no impacts to fire suppression or 9-1-1 dispatch expected.

In an emergency, call 9-1-1. For other, non-emergency, fire department inquiries, contact fire@campbellriver.ca, call 250-286-6266 or visit City Hall.

Media inquiries can be directed to communications@campbellriver.ca or 250-286-5744.
