Statutory Notification – Notice of Election by Voting

Public notice is hereby given as follows:

Notice of election by voting

An election by voting is to be held to elect a Mayor and six Councillors. The following persons are candidates for each office: 

Voting Dates and Locations

General Voting Day will be held on October 17, 2026, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the following locations:  

Advance Voting opportunities are available as follows:

October 7, 2026, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. 

Community Centre, 401-11th Avenue, Campbell River  

– and – 

 October 14, 2026, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. 

Sportsplex, 1800 Alder Street, Campbell River 

Elector Registration

If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the application form available at the voting place and making a declaration that you meet the requirements to be registered as set out below: 

Resident Electors:

To register as a resident elector you must:

• be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 17, 2026;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• be a resident of Campbell River on the day of registration (at time of voting); and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Non-Resident Property Electors:

To register as a non-resident property elector you must:

• be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 17, 2026;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• be a registered owner of real property in Campbell River for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• not be entitled to register as a resident elector; and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

In addition, for non-resident property electors:

• The only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust.
• If more than one person is registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

In addition, in order to register at time of voting:

To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.

Mail Ballot Voting

To vote by mail, you must first complete an Application to Vote by Mail. This application helps ensure that mail ballot packages are issued only to eligible voters.

Applications to vote by mail are available:

• Online at www.campbellriver.ca/elections or  
• In person at City Hall, 301 St. Ann’s Road, Campbell River, BC.  

If you applied to vote by mail prior to September 18, 2026, and your eligibility was verified, a mail ballot package will be mailed to you. Any applications received after September 18, 2026 will require in-person pickup of the ballot package at City Hall.  

If you do not receive a mail ballot package, your voter information may not have been successfully verified. In that case, you would attend a voting place and vote in person.

It is your responsibility to ensure your completed mail ballot package is received by the deadline at Campbell River City Hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 16, 2026, or hand delivered to the Presiding Election Official at the Campbell River Community Centre, 401 11th Avenue between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026. Any ballots received after this time will not be included in the count and marked as spoiled ballots.  

A voter who requires assistance may:  

• Bring a translator    
• Request curbside voting if unable to enter the voting place    
• Ask the Presiding Election Official for assistance  
• Bring a person to assist with marking the ballot  

Anyone assisting a voter must complete a solemn declaration at the time of voting.
