All open burning will be prohibited from noon on May 7, 2026.
Effective noon on Thursday, May 7, 2026, a fire ban will be in place for Campbell River. The ban applies to all fires, including campfires, backyard fires and beach fires. All open burning and the use of items such as fireworks, sky lanterns, burning barrels, and torches (including propane torches for the purpose of burning weeds) are prohibited.
“With hot, dry conditions across the region comes an increased risk of wildfires. We’re asking everyone to respect the ban and make fire safety a shared responsibility. Thank you for doing your part to help protect our homes, natural areas, and first responders,” says Fire Chief Kelly Bellefleur.
The ban follows the BC Wildfire Service’s announcement to prohibit all open burning for the Coastal Fire Centre, which includes all of Vancouver Island and the south coast of BC. The use of CSA-rated or ULC-rated campfire apparatus and cooking stoves that use liquid or gaseous fuel are allowed at this time, however, in extreme fire conditions, these may also be prohibited.
People found in contravention of the fire ban may be subject to fines and legal action in accordance with bylaws and provincial regulations. Residents can report recreational fires using the City of Campbell River Fire Department’s non-emergency line at 250-286-6266. In the case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
