In response to the low overnight temperatures and winter weather in the forecast, the City of Campbell River is activating a warming centre at the Campbell River Community Centre (401-11th Avenue).

The warming centre will open from:

  • 10 p.m. on Monday, March 9, to 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and
  • 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026

The warming centre is open to everyone for short-term stays and is a place for vulnerable populations to come in, warm up, and be provided with information on resources available to them. Guests are welcome to bring pets (on leashes) and belongings, including bikes and carts. Bikes and carts will be stored in an outdoor area. Hot drinks, snacks, and seating are available, but beds are not provided. The warming centre will be staffed by individuals with experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, ensuring that necessary support is available.

The operation of the warming centre is a collaborative effort involving City staff, local social service organizations, volunteers, and contractors. Thank you to everyone involved for their dedication to supporting neighbours and vulnerable residents during cold weather events.

Funding for the warming centre is provided by the Province through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, with additional support from the City.

Updates about this activation will be shared on the City’s website and social media channels.
