CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 22ND ANNUAL CITY STEWARDSHIP AWARDS

Nominations close on September 12, and the award ceremony takes place on September 24, 2023

The moment has come to celebrate the achievements of the local land stewards of Campbell River, who dedicate their time to preserving the integrity and beauty of the city’s natural areas. Nominations are now open for the City of Campbell River’s 22nd annual Stewardship Awards, which will take place on September 24, 2023, and recognize individuals who work to improve the environmental well-being of our community. As the community confronts challenges such as biodiversity loss and climate change, the contributions of environmental stewards have become increasingly important.

From now until Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the City encourages Campbell River residents to nominate individuals, groups, youth, businesses and industry representatives who have contributed to the common cause of environmental stewardship for the following categories:

    • Air Quality / Alternative Transportation (Is there an avid walker or cyclist near you?)
    • Pesticide Free / Urban Agriculture (Who’s working with nature and sharing their bounty?)
    • Water / Energy Conservation (Who’s saving our resources?)
    • Habitat Protection / Creation (Know someone who is rebuilding and restoring habitat?)
    • Waste Reduction (Who’s a role model when it comes to reducing waste?)
    • Youth Special Recognition (Who’s keeping the stewardship tradition alive and thriving?)
    • Environmental Excellence (Who deserves to be recognized for outstanding achievement?)

“Its spectacular natural setting, which offers numerous benefits to our community, is one of the things that Campbell River is known for. The City’s Stewardship Awards are an opportunity to recognize Campbell River residents who generously contribute to conserving our natural areas and keeping our local environment healthy,” says Mayor Kermit Dahl. “If you know someone who is leading the way for environmental stewardship in Campbell River, I encourage you to nominate them for an award.”

If you know of an individual or group working in Campbell River to reduce their ecological footprint and to improve our common natural areas for the benefit of all, complete a nomination form on the City’s website campbellriver.ca/stewardshipawards or in person at City Hall (301 St. Ann’s Road).

Drop off completed forms at City Hall front reception or email them to sustainability@campbellriver.ca no later than Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 24, 2023, on the banks of Campbell River at historic Haig-Brown House as part of the Museum at Campbell River’s Haig-Brown Festival and World Rivers Day celebrations. The day will be full of live music, nature and history-based programming, food and vendors.
