Campbell River experienced temporary road closures today (Thursday, Dec. 3) in some areas of downtown and along Willis Road due to localized flooding.
With another storm front expected over the weekend and early next week, drivers are reminded to please respect any temporary road closures.
Typical locations for barricades to mark the areas affected include:
· Dogwood and 14th Ave.
· 16th. Ave (from Walmart to Ironwood)
· Dogwood and 12th Ave
· the area around the courthouse
This type of localized flooding is not unusual for this time of year.
It’s caused by the combination of high tides, heavy rain and strong wind generating high waves that prevent storm drains from emptying water off the roads in the area.
The water drains from local roads when the tide recedes.
As a precautionary measure, BC Hydro will release more water down the Campbell River from John Hart Lake (the water reservoir) starting tonight. This is a precautionary measure to manage water reservoir level. Please keep a safe distance from the falls and river bank.
