The City has many old and aging sewer pipes throughout the network that are in need of repair or replacement. The conventional replacement costs can be expensive and create disruption to residents and traffic. So when our old sewer pipes have ground water infiltrating our wastewater system through holes, breaks and joint failures, it can considerably overload our pump stations and treatment facility, especially during winter months and storm events with a lot of extra water.
Case In Place Pipe, also known as CIPP can significantly reduce this infiltration and eliminate leakage in our system by a pipe lining method. Once completed, the CIPP will contain the sewer flow within the pipe while keeping external water and roots out and improve/restore the structural integrity of damaged sewer pipes. At this time the City will be lining 12 locations within the system that have been identified to be in poor condition that still meet the criteria of a CIPP with the outlook to continue to use this method when feasible as the system gets older.
The project locations are set within existing residential neighbourhoods bordered by 1st Avenue to the south, 10th Avenue to the north, Cedar/Fir Streets to the west and Hwy 19A to the east.
