Emergency shelter opens October 14

by Julie Douglas | Oct 14, 2016

With severe weather expected this weekend, the emergency shelter for homeless people in Campbell River opens tonight, located on the boulevard to the north of Fire Hall 1, at the corner of Dogwood St. and 13th Ave.

We are very appreciative that the shelter will be open prior to the extreme weather conditions expected this weekend,” says Mayor Andy Adams. “A special thank you to Coastline Towing and Houle Electric for their donation of in-kind services towards the quick relocation of the emergency shelter and the many individuals and social service groups, such as Campbell River Family Services Society, who have worked to ensure this service is available to our vulnerable population."

This is the fourth winter that the portable emergency shelter is open in downtown Campbell River. As in prior years, the City of Campbell River is providing the land and servicing.

The 16-bed portable sea can shelter is owned and operated by Campbell River Family Services.
