Back for its third consecutive year, the City is proud to announce its agenda for five lunch ’n’ learn sessions for local builders and developers for 2014. In recent forums, we asked the public what topics they wanted to hear about and we heard you! Our focus for the upcoming forums is proposed bylaw and building inspection changes.
“This is an opportunity to hear their feedback as well as a chance for us to share relevant information with them.” says Ross Blackwell, the City’s Development Services manager. “We invite people associated with the building and land development industry to join us for these informative and interactive sessions,”

All forums start at noon at the Rivercorp boardroom at Enterprise Centre beside City Hall. We will continue to send email reminders as we approach the forum dates.
Wednesday December 3 - Development Permit Handbook
In its ongoing efforts to streamline the development approval process, we have released an illustrated, easy-to-read handbook to help developers prepare Development Permit applications. The handbook is now available online at the City’s website. The handbook provides clear and concise direction on submission requirements along with a visual interpretation of the City’s development permit guidelines. This forum will attempt to go into detail in the thoughts behind the handbook and to respond to questions the public has provided us on the handbook to date.
Zoning Bylaw Rewrite
A new zoning bylaw is in the works. This forum is designed to provide an overview to what the changes to the zoning bylaw might be and their potential impact on future developments.
A new soil deposition bylaw is under development. This new bylaw is aimed at regulating and defining clear considerations when removing or depositing soil onto a private lot.
The discussion will provide an overview of how the grading process develops from the engineering subdivision stage down to the construction of an ancillary building 20 years later. The discussion will include the requirements to be met at each stage by the developer or home owner and how it relates to a statutory right of way.
