The waterfront sewer forcemain, built in 1972, is a critical piece of infrastructure that needs to be replaced to support new growth in the community and help protect the waterfront. Work on Phase 1 of the Waterfront Sewer Project included installation of a new gravity sewer main, between the Maritime Heritage Centre and 1st Avenue, and was completed in December 2018.
During this work, interim paving was completed as the road work progressed. That paving will remain in place over the winter, and will be replaced in Spring 2019.
Phase 2 – Further work on this project will continue in 2019, extending the new sewer installation from 1st Avenue to near the Big Rock Boat Ramp. This work was originally scheduled for 2020, but the project team is planning to move it up in order to keep construction progressing along this corridor. In 2020, two new lift stations are scheduled to be constructed – sites are not yet confirmed.
