Work under this project includes upgrades to the Big Rock Boat Ramp which is currently a free public use facility for recreational boaters in Campbell River. Plans to improve the boat ramp and McCallum Park were developed through public consultation.

The new design focuses on improving safety and ramp use for boaters and anglers. An extended and upgraded boat ramp will improve traction and water access for boats and trailers (up to 20 feet long) during lowest tides. Breakwater improvements will reduce wave action in the launch area, and associated boat ramp maintenance requirements. The project is currently limited to improvements to the ramp and launch facilities which will see modifications to the project scope for Phase 1 works. This includes floating ramps and exploring the feasibility of a fish cleaning station.
