The need for a skatepark in Willow Point Campbell River was identified through a community research project by the Youth Advisory Committee to Campbell River Council in January of 2003.
In April of 2003 the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Commission recommended to Council that they support the project.
In 2004 Campbell River Council set aside $30,000 to allow the Youth Advisory Committee to proceed with the design process for the skatepark. The design contract was awarded to Van Der Zalm & Associates.
For three months skateboarders, BMX bikers and rollerbladers attended meetings, submitted written requests and on line ideas for the design of the park. On November 29, 2004 the proposed design concept for the Campbell River Skatepark was unveiled.
The park cost will be $317,000. The Campbell River Skatepark Committee are committed to raising the funds for this project. You can support this project and have your gift permanently acknowledged through a gifted brick or plaque.
Individuals and businesses can donate money towards this project. Your name will be inscribed on the brick or plaque that you purchase. The bricks will be used to line the paved walkway into the skate park. The plaques will be incorporated in a "donor wall" at the entrance to the park. Tax receipts will be issued.
