The Transportation Department is responsible for the long term planning, operations and maintenance of the City’s road network, including roadways, sidewalks, traffic signals, street signs, crosswalks and bike routes.
Airport
Considered by Conde Nast Traveller as one of North America's best island destinations, Campbell River Airport (YBL) is the ideal gateway to Vancouver Island's finest destinations, luxury resorts and outdoor adventures. 
Bicycling
The City plans and maintains approximately 85 km of bike routes. Some of these routes are separated bike paths (along South Dogwood); some are bike lanes (Highway 19A from Erickson to Rockland); and some bike routes are regular roads shared with vehicle traffic.

Snow and Ice Control

In the event of a snow storm, the City is responsible for clearing snow off the City roads. The City's snow and Ice Management Policy aims to keep roads safe and passable as consistently and cost-effectively as possible. 

 

Reports & Studies

Transportation related reports and studies, conducted over the years, give the City long-term planning guidance, as well as suggestions for short term safety improvements.

Truck Routes

The City has designated truck and dangerous goods routes, designed to ensure safety and minimize impacts in residential areas. 

Traffic Calming
Traffic calming can help with common neighbourhood traffic concerns such as speeding, inappropriate traffic volume and pedestrian and cyclist safety.
Construction Updates
In addition to regular maintenance, the City's Roads Department builds new infrastructure. Keep an eye on past, current and planned projects.

Walking

The City has many walking amenities, including trails, sidewalks and crosswalks.  There are more than 100 crosswalks in the City of Campbell River, including 16 crosswalks with solar-powered flashing amber lights.  There are more than 130 km of sidewalks in the City of Campbell River, with a long-term plan to increase the City’s walkability with the installation of many more kilometres of sidewalk.
