An overview of Public Works maintenance tasks and information on reporting roadway issues requiring repairs, such as knocked over stop signs, malfunctioning traffic signals, and burned out street lights.
Transportation Network:
The City's transportation network is made up of some 263 km of roadways - which range in type from gravel surfaced rural roads to major arterial streets. The City also has approximately 10 km of pedestrian/bicycle paths and 80 km of sidewalks which are maintained by Public Works. Included in this network is over 1350 streetlights, 19 traffic signals and all street signs.
Some of the maintenance tasks performed by Public Works crews on the Transportation Network are:
- Street and sidewalk sweeping
- Line painting
- Asphalt repairs such as pot-holing and overlays
- Grading
- Concrete repairs
- Snow and ice control
- Street light repairs
Public Works also responds to emergency calls for such issues as malfunctioning traffic signals and knocked over stop signs.
